On Tuesday 23rd May 2017, year 1 went to Colchester Zoo to support their science topic, where they have been looking at different animals.
In Spring 2 we learned about the history of transport and we visited the London Transport Museum. We sat on the first tube ever built and saw the first buses running in London that were pulled by horses.
In Year 1 we planted our own broad beans to observe the life cycle of a plant.
In Year 1 we learned about local amenities in Geography, and we explored structures and strengths of different materials in Design and Technology to construct our own town.
Year 1’s Big Question was Should the big bad wolf go to jail for Eating Grandma and Little Red Riding Hood? The Opposition believed it shouldn’t because if we eat animals why cannot animals eat humans? And the opposition won!
Year 1 have been taken part in the Mosaic Project and have been adding their artistic contributions to the school community.
In maths, Year 1 have been looking at place value; stating how many tens and ones are in a number.
In science, Year 1 thought of many questions to ask about plants. They carried out an experiment to find out how a flower’s petals change colour.
As part of our working relationship with FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange), 12 of our Year 1 pupils visited their offices next door to St Paul’s Cathedral on 16th Nov 2016. 10 volunteers heard the children read and did maths games with them to support their learning in these subjects.
In Numeracy, Year 1 are looking at number patterns – 1 more than, 1 less than.
