We had a wonderful day learning all about the Vikings. We found out all about the different jobs that they did in their villages, how and why they travelled to Britain and how we are continuing to learn about them even today through archaeology. We even trained as Viking warriors in order to battle the Anglo-Saxons.
As part of our Geography learning we visited the Natural History Museum to discover more about earthquakes and volcanoes. We learnt all about what causes a volcano to erupt and the terrible damage it can cause. We also learnt about what causes an earthquake to happen and got to experience an actual earthquake in action.
This term we have been developing our carpentry skills to plan and build a prototype bridge that could cross the river Thames. As part of our History learning we visited the Museum of London to discover more about Anglo-Saxon Britain. We learnt all about their tradition of storytelling and even listened to a ‘Shop’ (storyteller) telling us the story of the hero Beowulf.
In Year 4 we have been learning to use Pro-bots. They are a fantastic way to learn about programming!
During our circus skills workshop we had the opportunity to develop our team work skills and learn some tricks straight from the ‘Big Top’!
As part of our learning in RE we have been learning all about Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year for Jewish people and it’s central themes are atonement and repentance. Our assembly was all about how people from the Jewish faith celebrate their special day.
As part of Debate Week Year 4 participated in an inter class debate. We were debating whether bullies should be expelled or if alternative consequences would be better. Both classes made some amazing points, however only one class could be crowned champions and they were 4F on the day.
Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed the work they did with The Happy Puzzle company, they took full advantage of the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills through a number of different interesting challenges.
Year 4 really enjoyed their day at The London Chess Classic at Olympia in Kensington . We learnt lots of new chess moves and had the opportunity to challenge children from other schools around the country. Particular congratulations must go to Adrian, Jorge and Martin who all won bronze medals!
