During Mrs Freeman’s book club in Year 6, the children have been reading a range of texts, making predictions, inferring and improving their reading and comprehension skills.
As part of Sports Week, the children visited Royal Docks Adventure to take part in canoeing and sailing activities.
As part of Healthy Lifestyle Week, the children took part in a workshop where they learnt about the importance of a healthy diet in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The children took part in making their own healthy smoothies from chosen fruit and vegetables.
During the summer term, Year 6 have been learning about the Mayans through history and art. In history, the children have been learning about the Mayan civilisation, gods and lifestyle whilst comparing this to present times. In art, the children have researched Mayan art and created their own designs.
On Friday 23.02.2018 a group of children from Year 6 went to Beckton Globe Library. During their visit, the children met the poet Neal Zetter who shared some of his work with them. As one of the UK’s leading performance poets, he provided the opportunity for the pupils to create and perform their own Kenning poems. …
In Maths, we used cuisenaire rods to solve problems. Also,we used multilinks cubes to calculate the volume of different shapes. These resources make Maths easier.
In English, we were writing a fantasy story and our hook for the story was a visit by “The Queen of Jalakavani” (also known as Ms Singh!). It was an amazing experience!
In Science, we investigated the effect of changing the length of wire, number of batteries and thickness of wire in circuits. The outcome was interesting.
In Year 6 we have been very busy investigating area and perimeter of polygons. We have been breaking them into compound shapes. We have also discovered that shapes can have the same area but a different perimeter.
This was a unique experience! As part of our History topic for the Autumn term, Year 6 learnt about Britain in the early 1940s by experiencing a 1940s school day. We also experienced what it was like to live during World War II , using ration cards to shop for essentials. This was a thoroughly enjoyable day! …
