School Uniform
At Keir Hardie we pride ourselves on having the highest expectations of all our students to enable them to achieve their full potential. These high expectations include all students wearing school uniform or school colours.
- White shirt/blouse
- Blue jumper/cardigan
- Black or blue trousers/skirt
- Black, sensible shoes
Students are permitted to wear only plain stud earrings; no other jewellery should be worn. Nail varnish is not permitted.
Please ensure all items of clothing including coats/jackets/fleeces are labelled with your child’s name!

Getting it right means…
- You are part of a team
- You are ready to take part in a sporting activity
- You respect the school
Please label each item with your child’s name. Their PE kit should be kept in a bag, labelled with their name and class.

Regular school attendance
Why is regular attendance at school important?
- Your child will achieve better
- They will make friends
- They will have a bright future
Why must I send my child to school?
- It is a legal requirement that all children attend school every day unless they have an acceptable reason
- You are encouraged not to schedule holidays, family visits or routine appointments during school time
Do I need to let the school know if my child is away from school?
- Yes you must let the school know the reason why your child is absent
- You can do this by telephoning or visiting the school office, or providing a note to the class teacher.
Are you having problems getting your child to school for some of these reasons?
- Won’t get out of bed in the morning
- Won’t go to bed at night
- Can’t find their uniform, books, school bag etc
- Slow to eat breakfast
- Hasn’t done their homework
- Has a test to do or piece of work to hand in?
- It’s their birthday
If so a set routine can help
- Have a set time to go to bed
- Have a set time to get out of bed
- Have uniform and school bag ready the night before
- Have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
- Set a time for homework activities
- Speak about school positively
- Be firm: send your child to school every day, including their birthday and the last day of term!
What should I do if my child won’t go to school?
You should contact the school as soon as possible for advice and support.
